- About Us
The 5-Cities U14-boys team did well in Bakersfield the weekend of March 2.
They came out of their pool-play undefeated on Saturday; shutting out Victorville 1 to 0, Visalia 2 to 0 and Santa Barbara 2 to 0.
If you think about it, being one of four teams going into the Sunday medal-round was the California AYSO equivalent of reaching the Sweet-16 in college basketball; four teams each in the four CA AYSO Regions battling to see who goes on to the upcoming State tournament in Davis. One of our players broke his collar bone in the Visalia game on Saturday.
They lost the Sunday morning game to Saugus 0 to 3. Saugus went on to take first-place in the tournament.
In the Sunday consolation game our U14B team took Cutler-Orosi (Tulare) to a 2 to 2 tie in regulation. They were still knotted at 2 to 2 after the two overtime periods, and settled the match via shoot-out. Our keeper made two great saves, and our team won. Final score 5 to 4, good for third-place. I like to think it’s the equivalent to placing somewhere between 9th and 12th in the State!
They’re headed to Bakersfield in a couple of weeks to represent Area Q, along with the first-place winners Lompoc-A.
Taking second was quite an achievement… In Friday night’s game against SLO they played 3/4 of the game a player short (one of our best defenders was red-carded for a handball within the 18), yet they still won the game 2 to 1. This is the first time this all-star season that the 5-Cities U14B team has defeated the SLO team. Saturday morning’s game was won over Lompoc B, 3 to 0. Saturday evening’s game was against Santa Ynez; another team that the the 5-Cities U14B team had not defeated this season. The game ended at 0 to 0, and went into a 5-player shoot-out. The 5-player shoot-out ended as a tie. In the following alternating shoot-out, our keeper made a great save, and our subsequent shot went in for the win.
Our U10 Girls teams placed 1st & 2nd at the Area Playoffs in Santa Ynez and earned spots in the upcoming Bakersfield tournament. Our U12 Girls took first place in Santa Ynez and are advancing as well!
Our volunteer board and staff are continually trying to improve and enhance the quality of our program. I heard so many wonderful comments regarding the new uniforms and I would like to get some feedback. Please take this very quick survey so that I can make improvements for 2013.
