Referee Training Dates

FALL 2024 Season Training (Tentative dates and locations)

New Regional Referees (for 10U and older games):
- 8/18 Sun 2-5PM: R83: Regional Referee in-person companion course - Pismo Coast Assoc of Realtors
- 9/3  Tue 6 -9PM: R83: Regional Referee in-person companion course - Pismo Coast Assoc of Realtors
- 9/8  Sun 2 -5PM: R83 Regional Referee in-person companion course - Pismo Coast Assoc of Realtors
(**** must complete all volunteer requirements below 'before' attending one of the above meetings ***) 

Returning Regional or higher Referees (for 10U and older games if you already have a regional training and badge):

8/19 Mon 6:30-7:30pm:R83 Returning Referee Update - Pismo Coast Assoc of Realtors
- 8/23 Fri 6:30-7:30PM: R83 Returning Referee Update - Pismo Coast Assoc of Realtors
(**** must complete all volunteer requirements below before you can referee on the field ****)

New 8U Referees (for 8U games only; Note that 8U referees do not earn points for 10U+ tournament):
- 8/22 Thu 5:30-6:00PM: R83 8U in-person Referee Training - Don Roberts
- 8/27 Tue 5:30-6:00PM: R83 8U in-person Referee Training - Don Roberts
(**** must complete all volunteer requirements below before you can referee on the field ****)

Volunteer Requirements  These are the steps to become a volunteer referee (that must be completed before attending the in-person class training - online courses are all found in AYSOU (accessible via your account Volunteer pg on our website)

  • Sterling Background check - annual (CA state requirement for risk status for 18+ years old)
  • Live Scan Fingerprinting (for 18+ years old; CA state requirement, once only)
  • Safe Sport (CA state requirement with yearly refreshers for 18+yrs old )
  • AYSO Safe Haven (required once only)
  • Concussion Awareness (required once only)
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (required once only)
  • Regional Referee training (required only once)

Youth referees are needed! (Earn community service hrs for AGHS)    

*Reminder:   all teams 10U & above must have at least one trained/certified referee earning a total of 35 points (typically 13 games) in order for their team to qualify for the end of season Ken Claassen tournament in mid-November

REGIONAL REFEREE (10U) TRAINING
(must be 12 years or older)

1. Register as a volunteer: Referee (18 old+) or (10 to 17 yrs old)  Click 'Volunteer' then 'Find Volunteer Roles, then 'Volunteer registration-MY2023 View Divisions' then select the 'Volunteer' box and 'View Selected Positions. Click the arrow until you see 'Referee' and hit 'Select' then click the image above 'Sign up a registered user' then select your user and continue to fill out the form.

After filling out any required form items you will see a list of items that need to be completed. For more detailed steps visit How To/Troubleshooting

2. Make sure you are up to date on the following required             trainings:
  Sterling Background Check (yearly - respond to email from        them)
  AYSO Safe Haven course (required once only)
  CDC Concussion Awareness (required yearly)
  Sudden Cardiac Arrest (required once only)
  Safe Sport (CA state requirement; requires yearly refresher          after initial course)
  Live Scan Fingerprinting (CA state requirement specific to            AYSO, fingerprinting results from other organizations can't be      used)
 
3.  YOU MUST COMPLETE THE ONLINE Regional Referee course on  AYSOU AND pass the exam at the end of the course BEFORE YOU ATTEND one of the IN-PERSON CLASSES above (Sun 8/18, Tue 9/3, or Sun 9/8) Print out or screenshot the certificate of completion, and bring it to class.  Held at the Conference Rm located at Pismo Coast Assoc of Realtors, 1126 E Grand Ave, Arroyo Grande

8U REFEREE TRAINING
(must be 10 years or older)


1. Follow the first 2 steps in the box at left but take the 8U referee online course and pass the exam; click AYSOU button on your Volunteer page, then Training Library on left menu, Refereeing  (View Courses), 8U Official Course Online. Once you pass the exam please save/screenshot and/or print your certificate and bring it to one of the in-person 8U training meetings (8/22 or 8/27). 


Since both scheduled field trg sessions have now passed, follow the step below

   2. Email the Referee Administrators [email protected] to schedule an in-person field training for further review of the rules on the handouts we will provide as well as to get your             ref jersey &whistle

 YOUTH REFEREE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AYSO THIS FALL for 2023 AYSO SEASON !! 

        

  AYSO 5 Cities Region 83 welcomes high school students (as well as other youth age 10 and over) who’d like to referee games for 8-13 yr olds this fall season.  We will train you, provide the uniform, mentoring, and  encouragement. The kids love having refs who are closer to their age!  All training and on the field hours are counted for high school volunteer/community service hours
