FALL 2023 Season Training
For first time Regional Referees (10U) the FINAL in-person training date is:
* 9/10 Sun 2-5PM - Regional Referee in-person companion course (you must have completed the Online Regional Referee course on AYSOU and passed the exam)
8/20 Sun 2-5PM Regional Referee in-person companion course
8/21 Mon 6:30-7:30pm Returning Referee Update
8/24 Thu 5:30-6:00PM 8U in-person Referee Training
8/25 Fri 6:30-7:30PM Returning Referee Update
8/29 Tue 5:30-6:00PM 8U in-person Referee Training
9/5 Tue 6 -9PM - Regional Referee in-person companion course
For returning referees who missed the 2 return ref nights there will be two Zoom trainings for the annual updates of the Laws of the Game.

Volunteer Requirements These are the steps to become a volunteer referee (that must be completed before attending the in-person class trainings - online courses are all found in AYSOU (accessible via your account Volunteer pg on our website)
- Sterling Background check - annual (CA state requirement for risk status for 18+ years old)
- Live Scan Fingerprinting (for 18+ years old; CA state requirement, once only)
- Safe Sport (CA state requirement with yearly refreshers for 18+yrs old )
- AYSO Safe Haven (required once only)
- Concussion Awareness (required yearly)
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest (required once only)
- Regional Referee training (required only once)

Youth referees are needed! (Earn community service hrs for AGHS)
*Reminder: all teams 10U & above must have at least one trained/certified referee earning a total of 35 points (typically 13 games) in order for their team to qualify for the end of season Ken Claassen tournament in mid-November

REGIONAL REFEREE (10U) TRAINING (must be 12 years or older)
1. Register as a volunteer: Referee (18 old+) or (10 to 17 yrs old) Click 'Volunteer' then 'Find Volunteer Roles, then 'Volunteer registration-MY2023 View Divisions' then select the 'Volunteer' box and 'View Selected Positions. Click the arrow until you see 'Referee' and hit 'Select' then click the image above 'Sign up a registered user' then select your user and continue to fill out the form. After filling out any required form items you will see a list of items that need to be completed. For more detailed steps visit How To/Troubleshooting page
2. Make sure you are up to date on the following required trainings: Sterling Background Check (yearly - respond to email from them) AYSO Safe Haven course (required once only) CDC Concussion Awareness (required yearly) Sudden Cardiac Arrest (required once only) Safe Sport (CA state requirement; requires yearly refresher after initial course) Live Scan Fingerprinting (CA state requirement specific to AYSO, fingerprinting results from other organizations can't be used) 3. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE ONLINE Regional Referee course on AYSOU AND pass the exam at the end of the course BEFORE YOU ATTEND THE REMAINING IN-PERSON CLASS (on 9/10) Print out or screenshot the certificate of completion, and bring it to class. 1. Follow the first 2 steps in the box at left but take the 8U referee online course and pass the exam; click AYSOU button on your Volunteer page, then Training Library on left menu, Refereeing (View Courses), 8U Official Course Online. Once you pass the exam please save/screenshot and/or print your certificate and bring it to the in-person meeting.
Since both scheduled field trg sessions have now passed, follow the step below
2. Email the Referee Administrators (email addresses below) to schedule an in-person field training for further review of the rules on the handouts we will provide as well as to get your ref jersey &whistle
