Region 83 Practice Information

AYSO Coaches- Please make sure to download your Coach Manual for the division you are coaching. Go to AYSOU>Resources>Coach Manuals>Look for your division and LAUNCH the manual. Towards the end of each manual there is a section that has practice training plans ready for you!

  • NO Dogs on practice OR game fields. Please help our league enforce this at practice and game day.

  • All Lucia Mar field permits are from 4-6pm (please end your practice on time).

  • Please be respectful and considerate of after school programs that have field space as well.

  • For older players, Review the AYSO General Release form (in your coach folder) and make sure to get it signed as needed.

  • Coaches must have coach folder with players medical release forms (white slips) with them at practices and games.

  • Coaches are not allowed to play soccer or participate in drills  with kids at practice. We are there to coach not scrimmage with them. (You may demonstrate a skill when you are instructing).

  •  Training Session: Remember to eliminate the 3 L’s from your practices: No laps, No Lines, No Lectures

  •   Technical Warm-up: Fundamental motor skills, lots of ball contact, introduction to skil

  •   Activities: New technique or game knowledge introduced in creative or fun games. SAY-SHOW-DO-REVIEW

  •  Small-sided Match: Basic rules of the game, without constant stoppage. Let them play!

  •  Different gender coaches. If you coach girls as a male coach you need an (adult) female registered volunteer present at all times. Same for female coaches who coach boys.

  •  Bathroom breaks. If you as a coach take players to the restroom, then you need to go in 3’s. Never alone with a player.

Supervision Policies

AYSO- Child Supervision Policy

AYSO’s Child and Volunteer Protection Guidelines are designed to facilitate:

  • Appropriate Boundaries
  • Transparent Interactions
  • Protection of minors’ identities and privacy

AYSO recommends the follow supervision protocols:

  • At least two registered adults present at all times.
  • One registered adult for every eight or fewer children.
  • At least one registered adult of the same gender as the players.
  • No adult should ever be alone with a child other than their own, including transporting a child. When it is necessary to speak privately with a child, select a spot out of earshot but within sight of others for transparency.
  • Team Coaches are responsible for all players until they are picked up or leave the area as authorized by parents.
  • Parents must not “drop” players off at fields or AYSO activity without establishing contact with coaches.
  • No child shall be left unsupervised after a practice or game. AYSO does not recommend that children walk or ride a bicycle home alone. However, when allowed, the Coach should secure a General Release form from the parent/guardian to ensure their approval. This includes allowing a child to car pool with another parent.
  • The AYSO “Buddy” system must have at least 3 players to minimize opportunity for player-on-player abuse.

In order to prevent misunderstandings, physical contact with children should be:

  • In response to the need of the child only; intervene only as necessary for the health and safety of the child.
  • With the child’s permission, respectful of hesitation or discomfort.
  • Careful to avoid private or bathing suit areas.
  • Age and developmentally appropriate.
  • Always in the open; never in private.
  • Brief as in a hug from the side, “high five” or fist taps to signal a good job or support.
